Council Results Are In
Fort McMurray / Wood Buffalo voters have spoken and the results show a mix of fresh faces and familiar names elected to municipal government.
Mayor Sandy Bowman was re-elected with 9,844 votes, well ahead of challenger Zulkifl Mujahid, who received 545.
In Ward 1, voters chose the following six candidates to represent them on Council: Donald Scott with 4,346 votes, Lance Bussieres with 2,943, Luana Bussieres with 2,993, Jennifer Vardy with 2,885, Ty Brandt with 2,838, and Mike Allen with 2,379.
In Ward 2, the two seats will be filled by Greg “Cowboy” Marcel, who was elected with 120 votes, and Kendrick Cardinal, who was re-elected with 93 votes.
In Ward 3, Stu Wigle retained his seat with 184 votes.
In Ward 4, Kyle Vandecasteyen was elected with 164.
Overall, 4 incumbents - Bowman, Lance Bussieres, Cardinal, and Wigle - were re-elected, while 5 new Councillors will join the table, setting up a Council that blends experience with new perspectives.
Voters appear to have signalled that while they’re satisfied with some of their current leadership, they also want to see new energy and ideas in the mix.
