Council has approved a $645.6 million budget for 2025, marking a $34.2 million increase from the previous year. The budget includes $476.2 million for operations and $169.4 million for reserves, though there is also another $166.2 million for capital projects not included in this total. Chief Financial Officer Laurie Farquharson cautioned that the Municipality faces growing infrastructure responsibilities and declining revenues, urging a focus on existing commitments. Key allocations include $80.2 million for road and transit services, $79.2 million for environmental services, and $58.7 million for police support and bylaw enforcement. Councillors Bussieres, Ball, and McGrath opposed aspects of the plan, citing concerns over spending trends and priorities.

The Wood Buffalo Food Bank's weekend food drive raised $260,994.61 and 38,413 lbs of food, falling short of its $300,000 and 80,000 lbs goal. Despite this, Executive Director Dan Edwards called the drive a success, highlighting the community's strong support and the donation of high-quality essentials. The increasing demand for food bank services has led to shortened holiday breaks for staff and a consistently high volume of daily appointments. Sponsored by Syncrude with a $125,000 pledge, the 32nd annual drive saw volunteers stationed outside grocery stores, collecting much-needed contributions.
- An early morning fire destroyed a home on Bell Crescent in downtown Fort McMurray, with residents safely escaping without injuries. Fire crews initially responded to a basement fire shortly after 1:00 am, extinguishing the flames before leaving. Hours later, a second, more intense fire broke out in the attic, requiring firefighters to battle the blaze throughout the day. By mid-afternoon, the home was demolished using an excavator to fully extinguish the fire. Emergency crews remained on-site until after 5:00 pm, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
