The Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday at 9:30 am. The agenda includes the Planning and Development Services Business Plan and the Northern Alberta Economic Development and Government Supports for Small Business Report Update.

Also on Wednesday, at 5:30 pm, the Wood Buffalo Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee will meet. The agenda includes a discussion about a proposed South Snow Dump, a proposed building next to Kiyam Community Park, and maintenance of Highway 63 through downtown, among other items.
- The Ward 4 by-election takes place today. Voting will be open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm with polling stations at the Anzac Recreation Centre, Conklin Multiplex, and Janvier Municipal Office. Voters are reminded to bring valid identification, with a complete list of accepted IDs available on the Municipality’s website. Preliminary election results will be released after the polls close, with final confirmation expected by Friday.

The Arts Council of Wood Buffalo has received a significant $50,000 donation from Birch Mountain Enterprises for its Arts Inc. project, which aims to create a $16 million arts hub in downtown Fort McMurray. This initiative will repurpose the former Landmark Cinema into a center for arts and culture. With design and construction plans finalized, the project is set to commence soon, although Council is still working to raise an additional $3 million through its ongoing fundraising campaign.

The Municipality has launched the Snow Angels program for the winter season, aimed at assisting residents who are unable to clear snow from their driveways and sidewalks due to age, mobility issues, or health concerns. The Municipality is inviting individuals, student groups, businesses, sports teams, and nonprofits to participate in the program. Volunteers who sign up will be entered to win a gas snowblower and will be recognized at a spring appreciation dinner in 2025.
- The Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation has started accepting applications for its new Board of Directors, which will oversee economic development and tourism initiatives in Fort McMurray. The Board, which will include two voting Council members, is expected to be appointed by the end of the year and will focus on enhancing regional growth, streamlining operations, and providing recommendations to the Council within 90 days. Applicants must be permanent residents with expertise in areas such as economic development, tourism, governance, and strategic planning. Interested candidates can apply until 12:59 pm on November 17th. More information is available online.
