Her passing has led to an outpouring of tributes from community members, leaders, and politicians. The funeral will be held on August 26th at McMurray Gospel Assembly from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, with time for respects from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. • It was announced that a new mental health facility for children and teenagers in Fort McMurray is set to open by fall 2027. CASA Mental Health, the organization behind the project, says the facility, called CASA House, will offer both day and residential programs, providing long-term treatments and involving families in the healing process. This will be CASA’s first facility in Fort McMurray, aimed at reducing the long wait times for mental health services and alleviating pressure on their Sherwood Park location. The Alberta government has committed $75 million to this and other youth mental health projects in the province.

  • A nationwide railway strike could begin as early as August 22nd due to stalled negotiations between Canadian National Railway, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway, and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference. The Business Council of Canada has warned that such a strike could have serious economic impacts, especially on the oil sector. In 2024 alone, over 14 million barrels of crude oil have been transported by rail, averaging 94,000 barrels per day. A strike would disrupt this crucial transport route, affecting oil shipments and potentially leading to significant economic repercussions.
