Fort McMurray's recent wildfire season offered valuable lessons for emergency response teams, especially in evacuations. The 2024 evacuation of several neighbourhoods was smoother than the 2016 Horse River Wildfire, with more time for residents to prepare. However, improvements are still being made, particularly in traffic management during evacuations. The wildfire season saw over 100 fires burn through 2,800 square kilometers, with rain providing some relief. Emergency services are reflecting on the season to enhance future responses.

The Wood Buffalo Military Museum made the news for its efforts to preserve Canada’s military history through its extensive collection of artifacts. The museum houses items ranging from a battle tank to delicate documents, with ongoing projects to catalogue and digitize materials. Special care is taken to preserve fragile items like old books and weapons, with efforts to avoid damage from light, moisture, and human contact. The museum also faces the challenge of balancing public display with the need for proper conservation. The museum is open to the public at no charge.
- Naheed Nenshi, leader of the Alberta NDP, acknowledged that the party has a weak presence in Fort McMurray, as reflected in the area's low membership numbers. Despite this, he plans to focus on rural Alberta, including Fort McMurray, through town halls and community events to increase engagement. He also noted his past connections with the oil and gas industry and dismissed criticisms regarding his ties to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Nenshi's primary goal remains to secure a seat in the Alberta legislature, possibly in Calgary or Edmonton.
